Begin with 2 minutes of silence

Scripture

Micah 5:2 (ESV)

But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah, who are too little to be among the clans of Judah,

from you shall come forth for me one who is to be ruler in Israel,

whose coming forth is from of old, from ancient days.

Devotional Thoughts

This advent season marks the birth of Jesus, who came to be a servant of all. Many times, we think that we have little or no energy to serve from. When we serve out of our reserves, we often feel that our service is of little to no effect. Yet, the birth of Jesus reveals to us that even service coming from a small place like Bethlehem can significantly impact those served.

We are called not to despise "small beginnings" or the strength God has given to us to serve others. There is never a perfect situation or circumstance in which to serve someone; and there is no better time than now. Your little act can change someone’s life forever.

During this season, extend you a hand of love in service and gifts. Think about those in need, find out about people in need, and ask how you can serve in action and contributions. "Service is an action of love."

Service is an action of love. God gave Jesus to us first and showed us this example. Jesus came from a clan that was referred to as little. So, no matter how little you have, your service can bring a turnaround in someone’s life.

Question for Reflection

In what way can I serve others in my community?

Prayer

I receive insight on ways to serve my community. Lord, help me to be willing to give from the little I have. Please help me to trust you with my substance. Thank you for giving us Jesus as a gift to humanity - amen.
