Scripture
Luke 2:18-19 (NASB)
18…and all who heard it were amazed about the things which were told them by the shepherds. 19But Mary treasured all these things, pondering them in her heart.
Devotional Thoughts
What have you heard? What are you treasuring, hoping for? Those who heard the shepherds’ report were AMAZED to hear Christ the Savior was born, news they had waited generations to hear! I imagine their minds were filled with the possibilities, the hope of salvation and freedom.
Mary was past the announcement and had entered the KNOWING.
Mary PONDERED, she already knew the promise, she’d physically experienced His birth. She had carried the treasure waiting nine months for the fulfillment of the promise. Mary was past the announcement and had entered the KNOWING. Here in her arms, an infant. What would it mean?
To ponder could be described as meditation, to think deeply or carefully about something. Imagine finding a chest of buried treasure, finding jewels and artifacts. You’d take out one after another and turn them over in your hand. But it’s more, I believe there’s ANTICIPATION in it, hope, a space to hold a treasure before the fulfillment is fully understood. To ponder is to cultivate fertile soil to receive the treasure.
Question for Reflection
Are you making the soil of your heart fertile in meditation for the fulfillment of His purpose in your life?
Prayer
Thank you for coming to restore unbroken relationship with You. I anticipate your purposes in my life even before I fully see them. God fill me with amazement and prepare my heart as I ponder the fullness of knowing Christ as my Savior. Show me the treasures ahead. In Your precious name, amen!
