Giving from our Treasure

Begin with 2 minutes of Silence

Scripture

Matthew 2:10-12 NASB
“When they saw the star, they rejoiced exceedingly with great joy. And after they came into the house, they saw the Child with His mother Mary; and they fell down and worshiped Him. Then they opened their treasures and presented to Him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. And after being warned by God in a dream not to return to Herod, the magi left for their own country by another way.”

What a celebration, what a discovery! Strikingly, the first honored to worship the incarnate God are gentile astrologers from the east, drawn by a marvel in the sky. Can you imagine the joy of these road weary travelers as they discover Jesus and what it must have felt like to finally offer their long prepared gifts?

Used by God, these fitting gifts - gifts from their personal treasure - given to the young family would provide for their upcoming needs. Gold a gift worthy of a king, Myrrh, used as holy anointing oil and for embalming, symbolic of Jesus destiny. Frankincense, an incense in the perfume of the sanctuary, a symbol of the Divine name. All this given to a baby, JESUS, the name above every name!

"It is a step of faith to take from the private treasury of your heart and humbly offer it to another. "

It is a step of faith to take from the private treasury of your heart and humbly offer it to another. What you have to give is already resident within you. You can trust God that your gift will bless Him, and that He will use your giving to touch people’s lives.

And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did it for one of the least of these brothers or sisters of Mine, you did it for Me.’”

Matthew 25:40 - NASB

Question to consider

What treasure is prepared in you to be a gift to another this Christmas season? How has God gifted you to specifically to intersect with Jesus in your neighbor?

Prayer

Dear Father, I believe, help my unbelief to...

catch sight of Your leading in the unexpected

know the joy in the discovery

have the courage to step into the house

see You in the least of these

bow down and worship

open my heart and give love away

hear You and adjust my journey

In Jesus precious name, Amen.
