I thank God for your ministry in Pullman and pray for your effectiveness in Christ.
My wife and son and I first visited your church on Mother’s Day service 2007. We took one of the white coffee mugs you displayed as a Mother’s Day gift. Every time we use that mug and see your name we think of you and your vital placement by God. My son is a WSU senior now and he is seeking truth but not yet convinced it is our Lord.
In December 2007, a student in the Rogers Hall dorm stayed behind as the other students left for Christmas break. That student committed suicide. He hung himself on the rod in the little clothes closet. His body was found by the smell when the students returned. The room was locked and access was gained by cutting the knob/lock section out of the door. That room was left vacant January 2008 through May 2008. Perhaps you know of this already. My son was later assigned that room in Sept 2008 but the door had not been replaced…only repaired by the reattachment and gluing of the cutout piece. The scar is visible I you look for it. The story came to us in this way. I often think of the dead student and how deep his depression and isolation must have grown over time and how he must not have known the Lord could help him through that time period. I have explained to my son that if that student had only called you on the phone, he would have received the invitation to come and talk and find peace in Christ and a stable place to be loved until he should open his heart to God’s promises. My son, the seeker, quietly agreed with me.
And so I email to thank you. You have a mission to the campus. You probably post invitations and events for students to see in public places..perhaps to refer them to your website. You know better than I how rich the field is for planting, watering and harvesting right outside your door. Your services are a beacon to this age group.
On the Mother’s day service 2007, a student stood up and gave his personal testimony of his accepting Christ and thankfulness for the path to his freedom from alcohol addiction. I was strengthened by his words. Please do not grow weary of doing good. You are making a difference for the kingdom of God and adding willing servants to the camp of the saints. I just want to say that the Men’s encounter last weekend was awesome. It is great to remember that is God who wants to encounter us. I can’t wait for the next one on May.
